One Cup Coffee Maker – What is a One Cup Coffee Maker?

A one cup coffee maker has become more and more popular these days,it is more likely to see one taking pride of place at the kitchen worktop in many homes. Although the single serve coffee machines are becoming more popular there is still a long way to go for these particular types of coffee machines to be fully accepted by coffee experts.

Most people that like fresh brewed coffee usually opt either for a cafetiere or an espresso machine. Their argument being that you can not get the full flavor of freshly made ground coffee with the single cup coffee machines. But to be honest unless you actually buy coffee beans and grind them yourself you will probably not be able to tell which one has the better taste of coffee.

There is also the matter of how much fuss and mess a traditional espresso machine or cafetiere makes when you are preparing for your cup of freshly brewed coffee. With the one cup coffee maker’s such as the Dolce Gusto Piccolo, all you have to do is fill the reservoir with water and pop in the coffee pod and turn the machine on and you have a decent cup of coffee that has only took a few seconds to prepare.

There are also many varieties of coffee flavors to choose from that you can use in the one cup machines. Also some of these machines also have
other drinks besides coffee that can be used, such as hot chocolate and teas. The only downside to these coffee machines is that they all tend to use their own proprietary coffee pods that can only be used for their specific machine. Also the cost of a box of coffee pods will tend to cost a little bit more than a container of freshly ground coffee. But they are still much cheaper than going out to a Starbucks or Costa coffee cafe.

These one cup coffee machine are still very handy even if you own a full on espresso machine! There may be times in the day when you do not want to be bothered with all the hassle of preparing yourself a proper espresso and just want to quickly make a decent cup of coffee. This is where these machines come into their own, just pop in the pod and you have a decent fresh coffee.

These machines are also very handy when you go away on holiday because they are not too big or heavy you can easily pack them away in your
suitcase so that you will never be without a good cup of coffee no matter where you are in the world. They are also handy to keep in the workplace such as an office.

There is no doubt about it that the one cup coffee maker is getting more popular by the day and are also getting better and better at giving you that proper coffee taste in less time than it takes you to to say Starbucks!

Cheap One Cup Coffee Maker – Senseo Single Serve Coffee Maker

Most of these coffee machines are very reasonably priced, but if i had to pick a cheap one cup coffee maker then it would have to be the phillips senseo single serve coffee maker. The senseo was one of the first of these types of coffee machines that i purchased, and i have to say that this particular coffee maker did not disappoint.

The first thing i noticed when i first got the Phillips Senseo out of the box was the size, it was quite compact and not nearly as big as i thought it would be. The design and look of this machine was also pleasing to the eye, it was not a horrible looking monstrosity like some of the more traditional coffee making machines.

The one i had was the one-to-two cup black senseo coffee maker which i think is the best looking out of the whole range that Phillips produce.

The cheap senseo coffee maker is very simple to use too. You get two coffee pod holders, one for one cup and a deeper one that fits two coffee pods in for making two cups of coffee. There is also two buttons for choosing how many cups you are going to make, one button for one cup and another button for two cups. The only other button that needs to be pressed is the on/off button.

So you can see that the machine is very simple to use. You just fill up the water tank to the min/max line and then insert either one or two coffee pods and then press the on button and then press the 1 cup or 2 cup button and your coffee will start to fill up your cup.

There is a wide range of coffee pods from Dougie Egbert’s for the senseo coffee maker that you can buy. You can get Espresso, Dark Roast, Kenya Blend and so on. They also do tea so if someone in your home does not like coffee at least they can still get enjoyment out of using the Phillips machine also.

Practically every part of the working mechanisms of the coffee maker can be taken apart for cleaning. The pod holder, water tank and spout and tray can be just put into the dishwasher for easy cleaning and to keep your senseo looking nice and clean.

If you have milk in your coffee’s then i would suggest that you put your milk in first before the beverage so as not to suddenly change the temperature of the poured coffee in your cup or mug, that will keep the taste nice and clean.

One Cup Coffee Maker Review – Dolce Gusto Piccolo

In this one cup coffee maker review i will be talking about my favourite one cup coffee maker the Krupp’s Dolce Gusto Piccolo. Out of all the other single serve coffee machines such as the Phillips Senseo and the Bosch Tassimo this one is my best one i use at the moment. There are many reasons why i like this one more than the others and i will go through the various reasons here.

1) The Design:

Out of all the rest of the coffee pod machines i think this one looks the best, it has a very cute style to it and the design suggests that it has its own personality! Which i know it is only a coffee maker but still, the way they have made the shape and colours does give it an alive look. I personally have the red Dolce Gusto Piccolo and apart from the black one i think this is the best colour to own, it fits in with my kitchen perfectly. You can also have this one cup coffee maker in Black, Red, Silver,White and Light Blue.

2) Ease Of Use:

This coffee maker is very simple to use, like most of the other one cup machines it is just a case of plugging in the plug and turning the machine on, then insert the coffee pod and you are all set to go. The only difference with this dolce gusto maker is the fact that it is not totally automatic. Instead of a button you get a slider on the top of the piccolo. The advantage to this system is that you have direct control of the strength of the coffee. So if you like your coffee weak then you just keep the slider to the right which will give you more water so as to weaken the coffee for you. Of course if you like your coffee strong like me then you hold the slider to the right while watching the stream of coffee pour into your cup until you see it turn weaker in color then you put the slider into the off position, and then you get a nice strong coffee! The other useful thing about this way of controlling the strength of your coffee is the fact that with the slider you can also put cold water with your coffee, say for instance that you fancy an iced coffee drink, then the Piccolo will do that for you.

3) Cleaning the Dolce Gusto Piccolo:

As with all these one cup coffee maker’s you can easily take all the working parts off and easily clean them by hand, or put them in your dishwasher. The Piccolo is no different in that respect, the water tank comes off, so does the drip tray and the pod holder. On the companies website you can also purchase descaling kit that will keep your coffee machine in good working condition for years to come. You can of course buy cheap descaling tablets that you use in kettles and irons, this will work just the same.

4) Specs:

The Krupp’s Dolce Gusto Piccolo uses 15 Bar Pressure to force the coffee out of the coffee pods. That is one of the reasons why i eventually purchased one of these machines. I find that it makes a hotter cup of coffee than all the others and the taste is slightly better also. The water tank can hold up to 21 fl.oz of water. Compared to some of the other machines this one is quite compact although i have found that the tank is just the right size for me, mainly because i am the only on in my house that drinks coffee regularly. But if you want to make more than really it is just a case of quickly filling the water tank up again, not that hard really. The size of the coffee maker is nice and compact compared to the others, it is 11.3 inches in height and 6.26 inches in width and 8.66 inches in length. It is 1500 watts also and the hot water temp is 180 degrees fahrenheit to 190.

Bad Points:

The only thing that bugs me a little with this machine is that i find the coffee pods once they have been used and i put them in the trash, they seem to carry on leaking! It is not a major problem and i do drink a lot of coffee which does not help the situation, but it can be a bit annoying when you empty the bin to find a little puddle of coffee has escaped from the bin bag. Of course that is not a major complaint and it does not stop me loving this coffee maker and the great coffee that it produces.

Summery:

All in all i love my little piccolo and have been using it for well over 6 months now with no problems at all. I still love the cute look of it and it still looks great in my kitchen! I love trying all of the different flavours of the various coffee pods, the best way to get all the flavours is to order in bulk from the dolce gusto website, that way you also get free shipping as long as you spend over a certain amount. I got my Piccolo machine when they where reduced in my local electronics shop, i paid around £49.00 for it. They sometimes do have sales so if you want a cheap one cup coffee maker then i would suggest you look around online or offline for the best deal. I hope my one cup coffee maker review was helpful.
